South Sydney Rabbitohs will start the NRL season without Burgess twins Tom and George.
George has been recovering from off-season surgery and will not be ready for the start of the season next week, while Tom, who played superbly for England in the recent Test series victory over New Zealand, sustained an ankle injury in a trial game against Gold Coast last week.
They will both miss the season opener against Sydney Roosters, who comfortably dispatched of St Helens last week in the World Club Series.
Fellow Burgess brother, Sam, is on course to make his Rugby League return in the game against the Roosters, with pressure increasing on Slammin’ Sam to deliver following the latest injury update.
The NRL season kicks off next week, with Brisbane Broncos and Parramatta Eels opening the competition on Thursday.
