Burgess flabbergasted by England call-up

Wigan Warriors winger Joe Burgess has revealed his shock at being included in the England squad for next week’s mid-season training camp.

Burgess has lit up Super League with some spectacular tries so far this season, filling the void left by Warriors stalwart Pat Richards, and sitting top of the Warriors’ Super League try-scoring chart in 2014.

And the 19-year-old admits the call from Steve McNamara came as a huge surprise, as he was only looking to be involved with Kieron Purtill’s Knights squad come the end of the season.

“Steve McNamara rang me up last week, and it was all a bit surreal really,” Burgess told League Express.
