Canterbury keen to make early move for Thompson

Canterbury Bulldogs are keen to sign Luke Thompson for the rest of the 2020 season.

Bulldogs chief executive Andrew Hill has told the Sydney Morning Herald they are exploring the possibility of bringing the England forward to the club for the remainder of the 2019 season.

Thompson has already agreed to join the club next year but with the NRL set to restart, and the Bulldogs in a position to make the move now, they are hoping to get the Saints star early.

“We’re looking at what’s happening in Super League and what opportunities there may be to bring Luke here as early as possible,” Hill told the Herald.

“There’s lots of hurdles for us to overcome at this stage and there has been no real progress on that opportunity.”

Saints would almost inevitably prefer to retain Thompson for the rest of the season, with the competition to return in August.
