WHITEHAVEN captain Jordan Burns has signed a new two-year deal, with Jay Weatherill following suit.
Fullback Burns, 30, last season returned to the club for a second spell, but was forced to sit out a large part of the campaign after suffering a serious facial injury in the Easter derby against Workington.
He worked his way back to fitness by the end of the year, and also featured for Cumbria against Nigeria.
Coach Anthony Murray said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have our captain re-sign.
“He’s had a tough spell with injury, but his dedication and attitude throughout have been first-class and to see him back out on the field recently representing Cumbria against Nigeria was fantastic and shows the kind of character he is.
“He leads by example both on and off the field, and having him back at the heart of our team is a massive boost. We’re all looking forward to seeing him lead the lads into the new season.”
Meanwhile the club’s longest serving player Connor Holliday has been granted a testimonial for the 2026 season.
The 30-year-old backrower is just three appearances short of 200 for Whitehaven since making his debut back in 2015. Like Burns, he has also agreed a two-year contract extension.
Weatherill was signed from Hensingham twelve months ago and Murray said: “He has made a real impact here.”
Former England Community Lions forward Jake Pearce has penned a new one-year deal.
