Todd Carney has ended any talk of a return to the NRL in the immediate future by signing a new three-year contract with Catalans Dragons.
The 26-year-old former international player of the year joined the Dragons on a three-year deal 12 months ago but appeared in just 12 of their 30 Super League matches this season due to a series of injuries.
Australian stand-off Carney arrived in Europe under a cloud after being sacked by each of his three NRL clubs but in March he won a case of wrongful dismissal against his most recent employers Cronulla.
Yet with speculation always building over a return to Australia, the Dragons said on Twitter on Tuesday night that Carney announced at the club’s end-of-season awards dinner that he had signed a new three-year contract to stay in Perpignan.
The club tweeted: “Todd Carney has just announced at the awards night that he has signed a new 3 year deal with the Catalans Dragons.”
