DIRECTOR OF RUGBY Chris Chester has insisted there are “no issues” at Castleford Tigers following George Griffin’s claims of being paid late.
Griffin, who left the club at the end of last season, posted on social media that he and other departing players were not being paid on time.
He wrote: “I really didn’t want to leave Castleford Tigers on a bad note as I enjoyed time there, but for consecutive months now myself and everyone else that has left the club has received their contractual payment late and have been unable to pay their bills.
“No one at the club seems to know what’s going on or passes blame to others.
“It seems Castleford Tigers need to stop shopping at Netto for their staff and start looking elsewhere.”
Chester has responded to Griffin’s comments, saying the issue has been “blown out of proportion”.
“I think it’s disappointing to be sent it first and foremost on social media,” Chester said.
“Contracted players and staff were paid on Friday and the players that all signed compromised deals were paid today.
“We should have communicated that a little better but I think everything has been blown out of proportion. There are no issues at the club.
“It’s indicative at the kind of culture that they feel the need to put it out on their social media.
“We should have communicated it a little better but it’s all been sorted.”
Chester insisted that he sticks by his original ‘Netto’ comments, when he said late last season after a 64-6 thrashing by Leeds Rhinos: “We’ve been shopping at Netto in the past, now we’re shopping at Sainsbury’s.”
The former Leigh Leopards head of rugby said: “It was in the moment and I wish George Griffin well at Sheffield Eagles.
“We have moved on as a club and we’ve signed top-quality individuals and people.
“The culture will be a different culture to what we’ve had in the past.”
