ASSISTANT COACH Luke Robinson says defence, not attack, will be the way to victory after a sorry showing at Bradford Bulls.
Castleford were beaten 32-22 by Super League’s bottom side at Bartercard Odsal as a difficult season ends with a whimper for the Tigers.
Robinson, who only joined the club last month and is in charge following the exit of head coach Ryan Carr, gave a gloomy assessment of where the team is at.
“I’ve only been here a limited amount of time but we look like a side which is lacking in confidence,” he said.
“If we don’t start well then all of a sudden things seem to fall apart and we don’t seem to have the resilience to stay in it.
“I think we made 30 more tackles than them in the first 20 minutes and you just deplete yourselves of energy and give the other side a leg-up.
“From an outsider that’s coming in, (it looks like) we want to try and score more points than the opposition rather than just defend our way to wins.
“The analyst told me that we average conceding 34 points a game and that is mad.
“It shows where we are at – we want to have a bit of a more defensive mindset instead of trying to attack our way to wins. The best sides are those who can defend.”
