Championship players get neglected, believes Dickens

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats assistant Stuart Dickens has said that Championship players have to be treat like Super League players – as he joined the growing number of people calling for mandatory heart screening at all levels of the sport.

Dickens spent the bulk of his career in the Championship with Featherstone, and he believes that Championship players can sometimes be neglected by the game – something which needs to change.

“I think maybe Championship players get neglected a bit at times by the game,” Dickens said at Wakefield’s pre-match press conference.

“I said that while I was playing and, even though I’m now involved with a Super League club, my thoughts on that haven’t changed.

“Championship players need to be treated like Super League players. They sacrifice more and they give up more time for a hell of a lot less money.”
