Chester gets first win as Wildcats coach

Wakefield moved off the bottom of Super Leauge following a 36-22 victory over Huddersfield.

A breathtaking individual effort from Tom Johnstone a few minutes before full-time secured victory for Wakefield, leaving the Giants at the bottom of the table.

Huddersfield had taken the lead thanks to Jermaine McGillvary, but tries through Johnstone, Mikey Sio and Reece Lyne gave Wakefield the advantage, before a converted Jake Connor score and subsequent penalty left the score 18-14 at half-time.

Connor levelled the score with his second try, before Max Jowitt’s try gave Wakefield a six-point lead once more.

An Aaron Murphy try cut the deficit again, although Brough couldn’t convert, so when Johnstone scored an 80-metre solo try, the game was over. But the Wildcats weren’t done, with Nick Scruton going over to end a memorable day for the Wildcats.
