CODY HUNTER is excited to kick on at York Knights after joining the club on a two-year deal from partners Newcastle Thunder.
The Australian halfback makes the permanent move to York after having impressed on loan from the North East side, going on to score five tries and 30 goals in a breakthrough Super League campaign.
Hunter, a former Sunshine Coast Falcons product, quickly established himself as one to watch at Newcastle during the early part of the campaign, notching 11 tries in as many appearances, as well as adding three goals, form that earned him a call-up to the Knights.
Making his debut in April’s 18-6 defeat to Leigh Leopards, the 25-year-old has been an ever present in Mark Applegarth’s side since, impressing with his creativity and kicking game in combination with the likes of captain Liam Harris and Paul McShane in the halves.
“I’m proud to continue my career with this club for a further two years,” enthused the former Queensland Cup ace.
“I love what the Knights are about, and I’m already excited for a competitive 2027.”
Applegarth, who has also added Cameron McInness, Zak Hardaker, Max Jowitt and Blake Lawrie to his squad from 2027, believes Hunter has only shown a glimpse of what he is capable of.
He added: “I’m delighted with Cody. He’s really taken his chance and stepped up to Super League.
“He’s still a relatively young player and he’s got his best years in front of him.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing Cody kick on.”
