Cougars to travel to Skolars in semi-final

Keighley Cougars will return to the scene of Danny Jones’ tragic death when they face London Skolars in the semi-final of the iPro Sport Cup.

The Cougars will travel to the Skolars on the weekend of April 30th/May 1st, a weekend almost to the day that Jones tragically lost his life after suffering a cardiac arrest at the ground.

Last year’s rearranged clash between the two teams was moved to Hemel Stags out of respect to the Cougars, although it is not yet known whether the same will happen this year.

Paul March’s side progressed to the last four following a comfortable win over Oxford, while London Skolars stunned Doncaster to progress to the semi-final.

In the other side of the draw, York City Knights will host Gloucestershire All Golds, who defeated northern opposition in Newcastle Thunder to progress.

Knights head coach James Ford, who oversaw his side’s victory over previously unbeaten Rochdale, admitted his side will need to be at their best to make the final against the improving All Golds.

“On this occasion I can’t play the underdog card,” he said.

“We’ll have to be at our best to beat them. Lee Greenwood has done a brilliant job there and all the expansion teams should look to do something similar in getting a good young coach and backing him. In my time in League One they’ve made some great strides and it will be a real tough game for us.”
