Cronulla call meeting after Holmes NFL talk

Cronulla chief executive Barry Russell will meet with fullback Valentine Holmes to discuss a proposed move to the United States in order for Holmes to secure a contract in the NFL.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Holmes wanted out of the NRL prompting the Sharks to release a statement saying the pair will meet.

Holmes, who still has one year left on his contract, has been attracting interest for North Queensland Cowboys as a potential replacement for Ben Barba who is only on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old has previously undergone testing with NFL scouts alongside Jason Taumalolo.

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan would be reluctant to lose Holmes with a limited amount of time to find a replacement.
