Richard Marshall and Gary Chambers, who have both spent time on the coaching staff at Warrington, had previously been in the running, along with Steve McCormack, who withdrew. But Monaghan’s name came into the frame last week and the club is now waiting for a reply from the Australian.
The experienced hooker is set to retire at the end of the Super League season and this would give him a direct route into professional coaching.
