Cumbria and Scotland Under 19s finish all square

Cumbria and Scotland Under 19s drew 22-22 in a thriller on Sunday at Maryport.

Scotland went in front on six minutes through a try by Jordan Gray which Matthew Hogg converted, only for the hosts to go in at the break 12-6 ahead courtesy of touchdowns within the next seven minutes for Bailey Morton and Kieran Mewes, the latter adding both goals.

It was a similar story in the second period, with most of the points being registered in the early stages.

Max Hutcheon crossed for Scotland on 45 minutes and Pat Bennett responded immediately, but the sides were level when Archie Andrade popped over in the 50th minute, Hogg again improving.

Cumbria nosed in front once more through Ryan Johnson’s try two minutes shy of the hour, Mewes landing his third conversion. But a touchdown some four minutes later by Luke Waterman, with Hogg again adding the extras, turned out to be the last score of an entertaining clash.

Jordan O’Leary was Cumberland’s man of the match, while Waterman shone for Scotland.
