Danny McGuire to retire in 2019

Danny McGuire has confirmed next season will be his last.

The legendary halfback has decided to hang up the boots at the end of next year as he prepares to begin his 18th season in Super League.

McGuire, who turns 36 next month, took to Twitter on Sunday evening to confirm the news as Hull KR begin their pre-season regime today.

He said: “18th and last pre-season starts again tomorrow. Looking forward to getting stuck in with the boys!!”

McGuire will go down as one of Super League’s greatest ever players. Heading into his final season, the halfback has won eight Grand Finals and won two Harry Sunderland trophies in the process. An England and Great Britain international, McGuire also has three Challenge Cup triumphs to his name along with three World Club Challenge successes.

Now at Hull KR, the veteran will look to bring the curtain down on his career in style next season.
