Deacon will be an outstanding coach, says Tomkins

England full-back Sam Tomkins believes former Great Britain star Paul Deacon will be an “outstanding” coach.

The former Bradford and Wigan pivot is currently on the coaching staff with both the Warriors and England, and many feel the 35-year-old is to thank for the impressive attacking exploits of both sides.

“Everybody knows he was a great player and I think he is going to be equally as good as a coach,” Tomkins told the Daily Star.

“Deacs could be up there for the next England coach or the next Wigan coach. He will definitely land a big job at some point.

“He is going to be an outstanding coach for many years to come.

“I witnessed it at Wigan and was lucky enough to play alongside him. He was a smart player and now he’s a smart coach.”

Sam’s sibling Joel, who also played in all three of England’s Four Nations matches, was equally complimentary.

“The work that Steve has done bringing Paul Deacon in has been an absolutely huge boost for us,” he said.

“Deacs has brought a lot to the table. Going out of the tournament is disappointing but we are definitely in a good place as a squad.”
