Defiant Walker insists Widnes can stun Saints at Magic Weekend

Danny Walker is adamant Widnes can defy the odds and topple high-flying Saints at Magic Weekend.

The Vikings are in a tough run of form, having won just one of their last ten games, and they are widely expected to extend that losing streak when they face a Saints side in blistering form and currently top of the table.

But after narrowly missing out against Leeds last time out, Walker is confident the Vikings can stun Saints and spectators alike and defeat the table toppers.

“They’re going to be a really good team as they have been all year, but it’s up to us to take it to them and then we can shock a few people and get a good result.

“It’s no secret, it’s a derby game and we’re all going to be fired up for it and it’s not going to take much for us to get up for it, especially at a magnificent stadium like this. Hopefully, we can surprise a few people and take Saints by surprise.

“I’ve watched a few of the games at home and they look the real deal at the minute. Ben Barba is the man at the minute, Tommy Makinson is doing well, I could name all of their players, they’re all doing fantastic. It’s going to be a big challenge for us and we’re going to be up for it.”

Walker has been in and out of the side in recent weeks, with the Vikings boasting plenty of competition at hooker with Aaron Heremaia, Lloyd White and Jordan Johnstone also fighting for the same places in the team.

“Hopefully I’ll get my chance on Saturday and take it with both hands,” Walker said.

“I’m really looking forward to it if I do get the chance to get out here. If it’s a packed out crowd, even better.”
