DENIS BETTS hailed the impact of Remi Wilton on Wigan Warriors’ success ahead of the hooker’s return to her native Australia.
The 29-year-old has made 36 appearances over the last two seasons, scoring nine tries, having made Wigan home after a spell with Women’s Super League rivals York Valkyrie.
During her time in the cherry and white, Wilton became a mainstay, helping Betts’ side to two Women’s Challenge Cups, two League Leaders’ Shields, the Grand Final and Women’s Nines during a hugely successful two years for the club.
Now, the forward returns to Narooma, with her final Warriors appearance having come in Sunday’s shock 8-6 Grand Final defeat to York.
“The last two years have been a constant highlight,” reflected Wilton, who was named Wigan’s Player of the Year in 2025.
“Signing with Wigan, it was like I found my spot. My teammates, coaching staff, everyone behind the scenes – it’s been unreal.
“The community and the fans, I can’t quite put into words, I’ve never experienced anything like it.
“To the supporters, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much. You’ve mad the last two years unforgettable.
“Wigan is home, and it always will be.”
Betts paid tribute to Wilton’s influence for the Warriors, adding: “She’s won six trophies since she has been here and has had a great time with the girls, they love her to bits.
“Remi has made us better, which is what she was brought here to do.
“She’s a great trainer, a great girl, and she’s been a real pleasure to coach.
“She’s played a big part over the last two years in the success that we’ve had.”
