Dewsbury Rams to persevere with youth policy

DEWSBURY RAMS coach Paul March is willing to persevere with his youth policy as he looks to help secure the long-term health of the club.

The coach, who has reached the second anniversary of his appointment by his hometown team, works to a strict budget set by long-serving chairman Mark Sawyer.

He is happy to provide opportunities for players who have fallen out of Super League systems as well as, via loans, those who are still in them, such as Huddersfield duo, hooker Monty Lumb and versatile forward Jacob Algar, who both featured in the recent derby defeat by Halifax at The Shay.

Inconsistency can be a side-effect of that approach, with March’s charges heading into their home game against Workington yesterday (Sunday, May 24) with a six wins, six losses league record.

“I’ve said I want to build a team here, and I knew when I took charge that it was going to be a long-term thing,” he explained.

“As coaches, we need to work with younger players and give them time to develop, and that can mean some ups and downs and being patient.

“But I think fans will have seen some glimpses of what some of these lads can grow into.”
