DONCASTER chief executive Carl Hall says there is plenty of work going on to build next season’s squad – even if no announcements, other than those players definitely leaving, have yet been made.
Supporters know backs Craig Hall, Ben Johnston and Jason Tali and forwards Josh Bowden, Andrew Gill and Ilikaya Mafi won’t be around after the club confirmed their departures.
The Richard Horne-coached Dons already have winger Bureta Faraimo, centre Reece Lyne, halfback Watson Boas, hooker Greg Burns, prop Jordan Baldwinson, secondrows Jacob Jones, Brad Knowles and Alex Sutcliffe and loose-forward Loui McConnell under terms for 2026.
And Hall, whose club are among those to file an application for Super League inclusion in 2026, explained: “We’re in talks with players both in terms of retentions and new recruitment, and should have some news over the next few weeks.
“But these things can take a while to complete, and sometimes one can hinge on another. It’s a bit of a jigsaw puzzle situation, where you try and get various things to fit together.”
Doncaster finished eighth, and Hall added: “We wanted to make the play-offs, and after challenging for parts of the season, we were disappointed not to.
“But bearing in mind we’re only two years into the Championship (after winning promotion in 2023) and that it is a really tough competition, we feel we are making progress, on and off the field.
“We are ambitious at this club, but we are realistic, and know we have to build in a sustainable way.”
