Dragons score seven tries to hammer Wildcats

Catalans Dragons scored seven tries, including a second-half hat-trick to winger Damien Cardace, to embarrass Wakefield Trinity Wildcats with a 4-40 victory at Belle Vue tonight.

Wakefield began the game brightly, putting the French side under early pressure.

But when Benjamin Garcia burst through some weak Wakefield tackling to open the score after 16 minutes, it opened the floodgates for the Dragons to score more first-half tries through Willie Tonga, Ben Pomeroy and Elliott Whitehead, with Dureau converting them all and adding a penalty for a 0-26 scoreline at half-time.

And the agony continued for Wakefield after the interval, with the Dragons creating three superb tries for Cardace, and Dureau, in the absence of Todd Carney, playing a key role in an impressive victory.

Wakefield scored a late consolation try on the final hooter when Ali Lauitiiti burst through the Dragons’ defence to create a try for Chris Riley.
