Eamonn McManus fined for Robert Hicks comments

St Helens chairman Eamonn McManus has been fined £3,000 after accepting a charge for breaching the RFL’s operational rules.

McManus criticised the appointment of referee Robert Hicks following their Challenge Cup Final defeat to Warrington.

He said the “perception of officiating impartiality was destroyed” before kick-off after Hicks met a supporter who had sent him death threats alongside Warrington’s CEO, Karl Fitzpatrick.

“Match officials are hardworking, impartial, and deserving of respect and support,” said Karen Moorhouse, the RFL’s chief regulatory officer.

“Theirs is a difficult job and without them there is no game.”
