Rugby League fans will experience the most extraordinary pre-match entertainment package the competition has ever seen when Old Trafford hosts the 2014 First Utility Super League Grand final on Saturday week (October 11).
Ahead of the top-of-the-bill title decider between Super League’s top two clubs, supporters will be treated to a spectacular series of routines and performances from some of the country’s most exciting and celebrated entertainers.
British rock band James have already been confirmed as the headline act and will perform two memorable sets, one before kick-off and one at half-time featuring material from their new album Le Petit Mort and a selection of their biggest hits, including Sit Down and Come Home.
The best-selling Mancunian group will be joined by Laura Wright, one of the world’s leading young classical artists. Wright, who has over a million album sales under her belt, will perform Jerusalem just before kick-off.
BBC 6Music’s breakfast presenter Shaun Keaveny will also entertain the crowds with a live set as well as hosting the pre-match entertainment and interviewing guests in the run up to the battle for Rugby League’s most prized trophy.
The Rugby League Rockettes will also be performing and entertaining the crowd both before and during the Grand Final.
Super League General Manager Blake Solly said: “The First Utility Super League Grand Final is a world class event and we are delighted to be able to offer an entertainment package that meets the fantastic high standards set by the players.
“James are one of the best ‘Brit-pop’ bands of the 1990s are guaranteed to get a bumper crowd rocking before the action unfolds on the pitch. The response we have had since we announced James as the headline act has been overwhelmingly positive and I am sure the rest of a terrific package will be equally well received.
“Having Laura Wright perform the traditional Grand Final song Jerusalem will be a spine-tingling moment for everyone, whilst Shaun Keaveny is a genuine talent whose unique style will provide added panache on a night to remember.
“As Rugby League prepares to embrace a new league structure from 2015, the entertainment and athleticism on show at the 2014 Super League Grand Final is the perfect way to usher in an exciting new era for the whole sport.”
