MIDLANDS HURRICANES hooker Ethan Newboult might be enjoying an extended spell in the team – but he won’t stop working to improve his game.
The 21-year-old Bradford Academy product has had to be patient since moving to the Birmingham side during the 2024 season.
He was known to Hurricanes coach Mark Dunning and his assistant Leigh Beattie from that pair’s time at the Bulls, and they saw plenty of potential.
The club took up their option to keep hold of him for 2025, when he made seven appearances before signing a contract extension for the current campaign.
Brandon Moore’s broken arm, sustained in June, has meant more regular matches for Newboult, who had gained extra experience through a four-game loan stint at divisional rivals Salford earlier in the season.
He landed the club man-of-the-match award in the 46-6 win over Keighley, then made his 18th club outing in Sunday’s 30-24 victory against Workington as Midlands keep their play-off ambitions on course.
“It’s been good to have this run in the team, and I’ve just tried to put my best foot forward and make the most of it,” he explained.
“This club is doing some good things; all the boys are buying into it and it’s great to be a part of things.
“I want to push on and improve myself, and hopefully the club can push on too.”
Dunning said: “Ethan is a great professional with a really good work ethic and attitude.
“He’s learning his craft and he understands that and is realistic about where he’s at and what he needs to do to get to the next level.
“He was happy to go out on loan and he always trains the house down, and working with him is really enjoyable.”
