FAN PANEL | A Salford perspective ahead of their clash with Wakefield

For the first time this season, Salford Red Devils find themselves right in the mix for a place in the top 8 as they overcome a lacklustre Huddersfield Giants last Sunday. The Devils hadn’t won on the road in 10 months but that hoodoo has finally been put to bed with a solid win over the Giants.

This week Salford look to capitalise on that win against Huddersfield this week as they lock horns with Wakefield Trinity. Wakefield will also be looking to build on last week’s win over table toppers Saint Helen’s downing them 24-20.

Ian Watson, most underrated coach in Super League? Well, he’s managed to assemble a squad for 2018 who, as mentioned are sitting eighth in the table. Above Catalan, Widnes, Hull KR and Huddersfield. There’s been a huge amount of changes and circumstances that Watson has had to deal with from Billionaire owner Marwan Koukash leaving, to lack of back up and strength in the squad but has still kept calm and collective and proven that even under the most difficult of scenarios, he can pull his side through and potentially have a top 8 side without breaking the bank on superstars unlike previous years at the Red Devils.

The AJ Bell hasn’t been a successful hunting ground for Trinity winning only two of their last six visits to the AJ Bell. Salford meanwhile gave the upper hand winning four of their last six since 2015. This tie will be anything but a walkover for either side as they both battle tooth and nail for a Super 8s spot. The Devils sit only 2 points behind Wakefield but Trinity have played a game less giving them a little breathing room on this weekend’s hosts the Red Devils.

Score prediction: Salford Red Devils 26-20 Wakefield Trinity.
