Finn relishing Magic clash

Castleford Tigers half-back Liam Finn is hoping for some magic inspiration when they face his old club, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, in the final game of the Magic Weekend at St James’ Park on Sunday (5.30pm).

Finn, who played for the Wildcats in Super League 10 years ago, says a strong performance on Sunday evening from the team and him personally is essential.

“I’m looking forward to the game in Newcastle this weekend,” he said.

“Hopefully we can put in a good display for the fans, which I think we need to as a team and from my own point of view, I want to put a good performance in too.

“Not so much because it’s Wakefield and Magic Weekend, but for us as we’ve not been particularly happy with the way we’ve been playing the last few weeks. It’s more that reason than any other.”

Finn, who joined Castleford from Featherstone Rovers in 2014, featured in the Tigers side that tallied up a 50-12 victory against Wakefield at Magic Weekend last season.

The Ireland international is aware of different factors that could play into the Wildcats’ hands if Castleford aren’t on their game.

“With it being Magic Weekend, everyone wants to perform on the big stage so that’ll spark them up a bit and they’ve lost their coach as well,” said Finn.

“They’ll be trying to make a good impression on Stuart (Dickens) or whoever comes in. With all those things thrown in, as well as the quality players that they’ve got, they should be a difficult opposition this weekend that we can’t take lightly.”

Tickets for the Magic Weekend are still available with unreserved seating for the day starting at £25 for adults and £12.50 for concessions.
