Flower ruled out of Wales’ European Championship

Wigan Warriors prop Ben Flower will not play any part for Wales in this year’s European Championship after the Welsh coach John Kear revealed the forward has suffered a knee injury.

The injury, which Flower is believed to have suffered playing for Wigan during their run to the Grand Final, has left the club advising Wales they think he shouldn’t feature in this year’s international programme.

Flower was initially named as Wales’ vice-captain for the tournament, but will now miss out completely.

“Wigan tell us that Ben has picked up a knee injury and they don’t feel it advisable that he plays in the European Championship,” Kear noted.

“I am really pleased with the 19-man squad we’ve come up with. I’m a little disappointed for the lads that we’ve left out but the challenge for them is to support the side who have been selected.

“This selection is the result of our four days’ training together. Hopefully that will show on Friday night.”
