Ford delight as York impress in defeat

York head coach James Ford was full of praise for his side following their narrow defeat to Catalans.

The City Knights put up an almighty fight before eventually being held off by the nervous French outfit.

Over 3,000 turned up to watch the League 1 outfit, making it a successful day for the club despite being knocked out of the competition, and Ford was delighted of his side’s showing.

“I’m immensely proud of our efforts,” Ford said.

“We spoke about wanting to be the hardest-working side on the field and we were certainly up there today.

“It should be a massive gap (from League One to Super League). I’m not having a dig at Catalans. I like Steve McNamara – he’s a good coach and they have some wonderful players. But if you get the culture right and have good facilities, a League One side can turn over the top Championship sides and even the bottom Super League sides.

“Unfortunately we weren’t quite good enough to do that but hopefully we’ll get another shot at a Super League side next year.”
