  1. Exactly. The thing is, compared to the average branded single malt, it is a one third saving, which is pretty significant.
  2. Sainsbury's own label Highland - nice, but nothing special.
  3. Bloody hell, it makes Eurovision look understated! Shiny women in insanely mutated national costumes screech their names and countries, while an out-of-tune salsa track bongos along dementedly in the background. Meanwhile, an audience of suspicious-looking swarthy types try to 'parTAY'. Where's Eric Morley? Now they are taking turns to tell the world, sorry universe, that they want to bring about world peace and work with children and fluffy animals.
  4. Remember the launch of LondonLive TV? No, of course you don't. Anyhoo, it was supposed to be the painfully hip televisual face of the urban cutting edge. In other words, they were skint and it all looked like the work of unpaid media studies interns. Right now on that channel, less than a year later? 'Miss World 2014' is finishing, to be followed by 'Miss Universe 2014'.
  5. On a MST3K jag, I just watched their take on 'Deathstalker and the Knights from Hell'. Great fun!
  6. I love that film - so half-baked but made with genuine enthusiasm.
  7. I've just started 'XIII Inspirations', but have also given into the hype and downloaded the first book in the 'A Game of Thrones' series, to see what the fuss is all about. So that's next on the readig list.
  8. His first move will be to sign 'Baldy' Pevsner and Wally Foot on a Bosman...
  9. Your Google image search results may vary based on settings, so I'll post a potential NSFW if you are looking for more about the lovely Ornella...
  10. 'Flash Gordon' is a great example. Even though a lot of the people involved played it tongue in cheek, the sheer unrestrained goofiness of the whole thing means that it qualifies. And it has got Ornella Muti in it, which is always a plus point. That's her in the middle, next to Marwan Koukash.
  11. Now this - smoking hot stuff! Just turn up the volume and tell the neighbours to sod off.
  12. This takes a little while to get going, then grooves like mad for seven minutes. Fabulous!
  13. I have some pork fillet (tenderloin) in the slow cooker that has been marinaded in olive oil, smoked paprika, oregano, garlic and ground cumin. Browned in a frying pan with an oil/butter mix then put in a roasting bag to cook in its own juices. I bought more meat than I need for tonight's meal, as cold-cuts of pork with English mustard in a sandwich is one of the great treats of life.
  14. Bruce Campbell has written a couple of books. The autobiography 'If Chins could kill' is great fun and actually very interesting when it comes to the process of making a film. His childhood with his best mate, a fellow tearaway called Sam Raimi, and how they later made 'Evil Dead' in a state of total ignorance about everything to do with the movie industry and learned by making almost every mistake possible. A really good read.
  15. B-Movie is a state of mind. It didn't have to be the 'B' feature in the cinema, but I think if there's ham with a side order of cheese, it qualifies. If the star of the film is Bruce Campbell, it automatically qualifies.
  16. Anyone remember Mystery Science Theatre 3000? A brilliantly simple idea; they showed an old sci-fi or horror B-movie (the shoddier the better), while a guy and two smart-alec robots made comments on what was happening on screen. There seems to be quite a few episodes on YouTube, if you search MST3K and use search tools to filter out short-duration clips.
  17. Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. The first 3D movie I ever saw, starring Peter Strauss, Molly Ringwald (her second-ever big screen appearance), Michael Ironside and Ernie Hudson. I was a little apprehensive, but it's actually very good fun even after all these years and the somewhat dated SFX. Strauss plays the Han Solo/Indiana Jones character, Ringwald the bratty kid he takes under his wing, Hudson as Strauss' untrustworthy former buddy and Ironside plays 'Overdog' - part man, part machine, all pervy scumbag. A not-very-guilty nostalgia rush. Like Mad Max in space crossed (towards the end) with 'The Crystal Maze' with a garnish of Duran Duran's 'Wild Boys' video. Oh, and there's some fat vampire things, too. According to IMDB, Colin Mochrie (Whose Line is it anyway?) and Harold Ramis make uncredited appearances. Music by Elmer Bernstein, no less!
  18. This was, by BBC4's standards, a poor effort. No new input from the band members, just some hired mouths rehashing clichés.
  19. That said, I haven't heard much original thought yet from the various interviewees.
  20. 10pm tonight on BBC4 - a new documentary on Kraftwerk, finishing in time for the Auckland Nines.
