What Are You Listening To - The Reckoning

Try sitting at home, feeling calm with no aeroplane background noise, a glass of something good in one hand and 'Minimum/Maximum' playing through some decent kit at high volume. Immersive. -

You have to be in the right mood, like all music. I don't always want to listen to my Kraftwerk albums, but when it's the right time, it's just right. -

Just been told this, which seems to fit the bill: The "Gorilla" album by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band was produced by Gerry Bron, brother of Eleanor. -

Jack had been in poor health for a while. It was apparently one of the reasons for the Cream reunion a few years ago, as he knew he didn't have many opportunities left. 'Songs for a Tailor' contains the song Never tell your Mother she's out of Tune, which is as good a bit of advice as you'll ever get from a rock star. -

On the iPlayer, a whole lot of early David Attenborough nature programmes. Quest under Capricorn, Zambezi, The Miracle of Bali, the People of Paradise, Zoo Quest.
-
The whole thing was another Attenborough spectacular. Can't wait 'til next week.
-
Watching the new Attenborough series 'Life Story', and Barnacle goslings make Rugby League players look like wimps.

Two lost episodes of 'At last the 1948 Show' recovered from David Frost's archive.

Hint to thieving scrotes - when you break into a house and threaten a pensioner with a knife, make sure it's not Frank Corti. -

Living out in the country as we were then, Metros and Fiestas were popular, for their simplicity and cheapness. You'd usually see a well-used Fiesta parked up at a farm for general road use, alongside a 4x4 for farm work. Simple cars, so if you had a bit of mechanical experience, you could fix most things on them without going miles and miles to a garage with repair facilities.

A friend of ours, many years ago, had a bit of bad luck with North York Moors wildlife. 1. Firstly, his car was hit by a deer. Made quite a mess. 2. He got it back after repairs and, within a week, it was stolen. 3. Within a month of it being recovered, he was driving along the road towards our house, and was hit by TWO deer simultaneously. Caved in the entire front of the vehicle. He would have sold it to get rid of the bad luck, but when two fully grown deer hit an Austin Metro, you may as well just give up on the thing. As for the deer, everyone in the area knows which pub to call. They'll send out a bloke who'll dispose of the bodies and you'll get a fine venison dish next time you visit.

Here we go - a man who even Hunter S.Thompson once namechecked as an icon of chemical excess. The late, great, practically spherical drug-hoover Baby Huey! -

'Wigan Warriors' by Sean O'Loughlin. An American composer who was doing a vanity search when he happened upon Google results about Lockers and decided to write a march to commemorate the event. -

'When you lunch with the Emperor' by Ludwig Bemelmans. Autobiographical bits and pieces from the author and illustrator of the 'Madeleine' books (also a screenwriter and hotelier at times). Fun, charming, but occasionally chaotic. -
