  1. That’s a pretty good result. More people talking about RL more often is a great thing.
  2. That’s good news. IIRC from the same time last year, the forum blew up because the BBC didn’t include the RLWC in it’s top 10 events for 2021.
  3. Right you are @Cumbrian Fanatic! What an unique/absurd way to set up a finals series. Why would the organisers have teams from the same group, potentially cross paths again before the final.
  4. Whatever the reason, I’m not sure the word “coward” applies. Selfish… definitely. We will soon learn to what lengths the NRL will go to avoid representative football outside SOO. The 2022 RLWC will be upon us in no time. I’m looking forward to a year of spite which should fuel the event into being the most partisan it’s been for a long time. The Poms are great, vocal supporters in any instance. If Australia and England are both good enough to meet in the later rounds, I expect the a hostile reception for the Kangaroos unlike anything they’ve been welcomed to before. Only a miracle would see them meet at Elland Rd. That would be big. The more realistic venue will be Emirates or Old Trafford. I’m not sure of the field dimensions for the Emirates, but Old Trafford would be in England’s favour I expect. edit* thanks @Cumbrian Fanatic, since learned that they can only meet in the final. In which case, I hope both teams are good enough to get there. I want them to cross paths and it’s definitely my preferred final.
  5. You are right Damien. But let me put it this way… There was a very high risk of a huge new Covid breakout in the UK due to its free movement of domestic and international citizens. A very high risk that in turn that has resulted in the cancellation of domestic sports the world over. It could easily have been the World Cup Semis and Final that were cancelled and all four teams severely depleted with exposed players. Couldn’t it? The NRL and NZRL reservations appear to me to be more and more justified by the day.
  6. Mine was a response to commentary specifically around RU. The response could easily have applied to any or many sport/s had the previous comment called for it.
  7. Yeah there were, all in varying levels of restrictions. Doesn’t make it right though. Doesn’t make it wrong either. I’m just posing the question.
  8. Ahhhh, the age old argument, “he’s doing it, why aren’t you?”. Just because your arch enemy is doing something stupid, doesn’t mean you should copy them. There is a long way to go before October 2022. My fingers are crossed that the world is in better shape by then. So had the NRL and NZRL been told in August that “around the time the 2021 RLWC will be taking place, there will be widespread outbreak of a new variant that is more transmissible than the Delta strain that is less susceptible to vaccination which will result in UK infection rates climb to unseen levels” then the NRL and NZRL would have been justified in pulling out of the tournament?
  9. At the risk of drawing mass reprisal, it would appear, had the 2021 RLWC gone ahead and in hindsight, only shear luck would have saved the tournament from being incomplete. Omicron could very easily have invaded the UK a month earlier and as we can see, the outcome is mass cancellation of major sporting fixtures. So with that firmly in mind… Is the NRL’s and NZRL’s decision not to take part in 2021 now justified?
  10. He is a false PR robot. I don’t believe he is truly gracious at all.
  11. The thing you will find FIA will defend is, does the rule say only some cars can’t pass? “All cars” could be defined as “all cars between the top 2” Considering what an absolute A-Grade flog Lewis is, I am pleased with the current result. Might change though. im more surprised why Merc are not challenging Max weaving more than once on the straight whilst Lewis was prime for an overtaking manoeuvre. That usually comes with a minimum 5 sec time penalty.
  12. I don’t understand it. In the past I have considered Max to be childish and a bit of a knob head, however, by comparison, Lewis Hamilton is an absolute A-Grade, gold medal standard, self obsessed, flog! I don’t understand how anyone would warm to him.
  13. Any idea how these games can be viewed in Australia?
  14. I’m sure they can run one of the RFL departments out of the George. HR for example. Head office for the Development management team. Are there any left?
  15. Why doesn’t the RFL just take over the George and use it as one of their main offices and then manage the museum while there?
  16. That search would be full of Leigh match day threads
  17. I feel your pain @Farmduck. The club is a shambles. I don’t think sacking McGuire is the right move either. The whole club seems to be stuck in mediocrity. The club struggles with its identity. There is are two very different suburban socio-economic bases that the club aspires to inspire. In between those suburban spaces there are two of the biggest clubs in Sydney. I don’t know what the Wests Tigers stand for. The name itself is near on anonymous and inaccurate. Balmain hardly even fits the description of inner west these days. From what we see of the CEO on Tales From Tiger Town, he hardly appears to be the inspiring leader. Tim Sheens’ imminent arrival… I don’t think going back to the past is the answer either. I just find the whole club lacking any credible inspiration. I really do feel for the club’s fans.
  18. That is complete garbage. I just cannot fathom how poor a suggestion this is.
