Dewsbury Rams v Swinton Lions 15th September, KO: 15:00

..........as with many things, picking a M-o-M is purely subjective ........ Plus point was that yesterday's sponsors promised to be with us again next season !! Let's hope they're picking a M-o-M for the winning side next time around. -
Biggest crowd I can recall at CF was the '73 Challenge Cup Quarter Final v Wakefield and I think we won 15-4..... Seem to remember the crowd being given as over 15,000 ......... The Aussie game was awesome..... I don't recall how 'brutal' it might have been but I do know our lads didn't give an inch all afternoon....... Remember Stevo doing the kick-off. Someone mentioned Trevor Rhodes on another thread and I clearly remember his 'over the shoulder' try against Featherstone on a midweek night ...we beat them something like 40-0 but they did have a Yorkshire Cup Semi to play shortly after. I have a very vague recollection of a Dewsbury-Batley game on a Christmas Day - but that is a dim and distant one. The game against Hull at CF when my younger brother and I were saved the trek up Leeds Road when Brian Firth and Kevin Osbourne gave us a lift with them.......apart from losing, that's all I remember. Jeff Grayshon's first game in the second row when we played St Helens, we were down to the bare bones for a team and gave them a real run for their money, losing narrowly with a patched-up side against a strong Saints line up. So many more ........ and I was there for the last one against Barrow.... sad day but it needed to happen.

Read last night that Reiss Butterworth is joining Sheffield Eagles for Season 2025 ........ Would have been great to get him back at RAMS but sadly not to be Good luck Reiss ......... despite who you're joining

I've been to Rugby league internationals at Old Trafford, Twickenham, Central Park, KC Stadium, John Smith's Stadium etc etc and a World Cup Final at (old) Wembley..... Quite a few Super League Grand Finals and even one game in Australia at West Tigers v Brisbane but NOTHING has ever matched the excitement of seeing the first glimpse of my late 1960's / early 1970's heroes emerging from that tunnel with the expectation of victory every time - even though it wasn't always the case. No warm-up routines in those days so the first sight of the players emerging had its own magic. Great teenage days and memories .... even going up sometimes on a Tuesday or Thursday night just to watch them train !! Occasionally got there early enough to get the Scoreboard job ... hated putting the scores up for the opposition I'll join you BSJ in raising a glass to the old (and true) home of Dewsbury RLFC

That's a very insightful analogy .... If only I'd seen it that way instead of attempting to post a genuine response to what I thought was unfair criticism of the Rams' website ........ I must learn to think more like yourself for future correspondence. You're forgiven........ -

If you don't know what hand you've been dealt, how do you know what you're going to do and how much you're going to bet /invest ?? From what I can glean, and it's no more than hearsay, a lot is dependent on the IMG decisions in the next few weeks.... don't ask me the ins & outs of why because I don't have a clue and don't have long enough left to live to read the IMG documents...... It's always been the way (over the last 20 years at least) that announcements about players in and out are held back until the current season is over ..... and why would we start making announcements about players we've signed or are hoping to sign when none of it is relevant until 2025 ?? As a business, would you announce what your strategy & future plans are, thereby giving your competition the chance to steal a march on you ? (No pun intended) In seasons past, Mark Sawyer has held Fans Forums and given out plenty of detail at those ..... perhaps that's what we need to wait for this year, given the questions that need answering before a clear strategy can be formulated. Criticism of the website seems unfair -- have you seen Batley's for example ?? We get to know as soon as players join / leave (officially), Matchday squads, Matchday details before the games, Matchday reports the day after the game, other items of note,............ I remember waiting for Thursday when the Rugby Leaguer came out to read about Sunday's game and any news, then just as eagerly on Friday for the Dewsbury Reporter updates -- so maybe I'm a bit more 'tolerant' and don't mind waiting until the next day..... Would I like more information ? - Dead right I would ............. Would I put in the money that Mark Sawyer does ? Dead right I wouldn't ............ -

Absolutely you were ... And to put the flip side of the coin, your large number of visitors to the Royal Suite were, rightly, jubilant but also respectful and friendly and celebrated what, for them , was a great victory after a very trying week .... Good luck in your survival efforts 'Haven -
..... I don't know any more than the next man about the "plan going forward" ... Just couldn't bring to mind some Heavy Woollen born players that Marchy might have in mind so thought I'd put the question out there ....
-
That the intent is to have more Dewsbury/ local players at the club next season..... Not all from the amateur game but those playing professional already.....
-
In light of Marchy's post match comments, which current professional players, born in the Heavy Woollen area, would you like to see in the next season???
-
Kyle Amor has taken up the coaching reins at Whitehaven ........ That didn't take long to sort out did it ?? Can we expect a coaching 'bump' for his first game in charge ?
-
Looking forward to Sunday's game ...... Hope we can give you a run for your money !! Whatever the result, hope we'll see a number of you in the Royal Suite after the game....... always a warm welcome to visiting fans (seem to remember quite a few of you joined us a couple of years back) Safe journeys down

"Refs might make us raise an eyebrow now and then but I don't recall any actually causing us to lose, or win, a match" I would usually support that statement BSJ ...... But Gareth Hewer came VERY close on a few occasions ...... or so it seemed at the time ...... -
It's a sad state of affairs if a "source directly in the coaching camp" is going around making these sort of statements, whether they're true or not ........ The version of events that I was told was that Jimmy wanted to stay and see the season through - and I have zero reason to doubt that my 'source' was telling me anything other than what they believed to be true. But I am NOT making that as a true and fair statement - just a version that I choose to believe. It is ultimately, on both sides, hearsay: Definition from dictionary.com unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from another and not part of one's direct knowledge:
-
"I’m reliably told Beckett said to Paul Marsh that unless they agree to his move starting early, he’s going to just turn off. Great from our captain that. To be fair to the club in this situation, there’s not much they could really do other than trying to make the best out of it." "What if people say that they doubt your sources? Your random condemnation of players seems to be following an agenda." In the interview with Paul March in the Royal Suite after the game, it seemed very much as if Fev had approached Dewsbury with a view to a 2-for-1 deal so they could get JB on board this season ......... It afforded us the opportunity to have a look at a couple of players who may or may not be of benefit going forward so made sense in the overall scheme of things ..... and if SILK's performance yesterday was anything to go by, I wouldn't mind seeing him regularly in the Red, Amber & Black. Hearsay is simply that and should remain where it belongs ........ but, hey, Rugby League's always been a conspiracy theorist's dream playground.
-
Don't believe Jimmy Beckett ever gave less than 100% when he wore the Red, Amber & Black so let's just say "Thanks Jimmy" and best of luck for your future endeavours..... Our fate is sealed for this season (at least in terms of league placings) so we may as well have a look at Tomlinson and Silk and see if they can bring anything to advantage the Club going forward.....
-
........ would Owen Restall actually be in the team if Perry Whiteley was fit to play ??? If people don't WANT to play for the Rams then the loss of their services does NOT weaken the club........ It may weaken the Team

That was the inferred attempt at humour ...... but there genuinely is a very warm post-match welcome in the Royal Suite for all fans ...... I recall a fair few stayed with us after last year's League 1 game so hope to see them again -

It was a huge improvement from what we saw against York .... Better discipline, fewer unforced errors and a very good completion rate, especially in the 1st half..... IF we can reproduce that sort of performance then we could be looking at good, competitive games against Doncaster, Whitehaven, Barrow & Swinton on our own patch. -
For those of us long in the tooth ( like myself) the current state of affairs on the pitch is nothing new ........ we've been a lot lower and a lot poorer than we currently are. Where our biggest problem lies is probably summed up by this quote from Nearenough on the York Forum: "dews were very very poor, and look certain to finish bottom. sadly they also seem to have next to no supporters which is a real sad state of affairs, the place was dead yesterday, " I remember the furore last year about the South Stand being closed ........ But, five minutes from the end of Sunday's game, I bet there wasn't 30 people in there..... From what I hear, some people are 'boycotting' games -- How the hell does that help any club ?? The Royal Suite after the game was very quiet ........ where have all the 'fans' gone from last year who stayed after the game for a pint or two.... they also 'boycotting' and further reducing the club's income ?? We're all dis-heartened with the current happenings - nobody likes losing and, of course, we want to see 100% commitment which we didn't on Sunday, but just how does a club turn this scenario around ?? A lot of people point fingers at Mark Sawyer ....... But without him, would we even have a club -- Maybe some should do a Michael Jackson and "look at the man in the mirror" There is no quick fix but any supporter who truly CARES needs to find a better way of helping than slagging everything off and staying away........ And the joy of being a RAMS supporter ?? ......... currently everything else in life seems an awful lot better
-
Shame to see him leave ....... never seemed to get a regular run in the first team and I don't think we ever really saw the best of him.......... Good luck to the lad for whatever he's got planned in the future

...... be good to see you all for the second time this season -- as always, whatever the result, there's a warm welcome to everyone in the Royal Suite after the game for the presentations, interviews etc
