  1. Yes you've got the jist right but that's not exactly true: https://www.rugby-league.com/article/50538/south-wales-ironmen-to-become-west-wales-raiders So they are different clubs with different owners. Don't know what point you are trying to make. You said WWR had no money to bring players in when the reality is one thing they are not lacking is money. If they can afford to pay Rangi Chase 20-25k in league 1 I'd say they are pretty flush with cash!
  2. What?! South Wales and West Wales Raiders were/are completely different clubs with different owners.
  3. WWR entered league 1 in 2017 and their first full season was in 2018. They were an amateur club before that. The backers of WWR have poured significant funds into the club and it looks like they will continue to do so
  4. Without wanting to derail the thread this is the same bond that other clubs were required to provide. It wasn't a case of pricing anyone out.
  5. WWR didn't have much money? Think you'd be surprised at their wage bill in comparison to other clubs! They have more than enough money. WWR struggled because they massively underestimated how tough league 1 would be and had a side full of inexperienced players. They couldn't attract experienced players due to their location and still struggle to do so. They've only got better because most of their squad have got more experienced in league 1 and have a better understanding of what is required at that level. Cornwall will be exactly the same unless they pull something out of the bag and recruit a load of experienced players in the next couple of months and pay them loads of money. The small caveat being that Cornwall is probably a more attractive place for potential players to live than Llanelli (no disrespect I'm sure it's lovely there too)
  6. That's not really the point people are making though. Cornwall have said they want to use predominantly Cornish players. We all know some players can convert but you don't win league 1 matches on potential and inexperience at league 1 is brutally exposed (see WWR). Not conducive to growing a club when you are getting tonked 100+ points week in week out
  7. In short for the Bears 2 to 3. Josh Dunne was a very good signing last season and came from union though he played a very high level in union (Irish interprovincial u20). There has been other successes so it can be done, however as mentioned by others you cannot compete in league 1 with predominantly RU players. Its not just size, skill or even fitness that makes the difference. I've seen big RU converts, giants on the field, who are soft in contact and just don't have the right mentality for it. The Bears even had an England 7s winger play a couple of games, got smashed and never came back!
  8. I understand that but there are different levels of scrutiny applied because they already held the licence
  9. Yes and I think that's another factor here for some clubs i.e. Should someone get automatic entry and plonk a team wherever they want
  10. Yes all clubs have a share. Ottawa (now Cornwall) bought Hemel's share hence automatic entry into league 1. They are a new club (not a relocation)
  11. To be fair Keighley proposed kicking West Wales, Coventry and Skolars out of the league so I can well believe Keighley were fuming about this (though not the only club from what I gather)
  12. I think this is completely the right attitude to have and its got to be the long term dream. Not wanting to burst your bubble but you'll have to be prepared for a very steep learning curve. West Wales have already experienced that in recent seasons and it has been challenging for them to build a fan base as a result
  13. Agree completely. Don't think people fully understand how much is costs to run a league 1 club. Many clubs have also just come out of a season with reduced revenue and face massive funding cuts next year. They have every right to have concerns about additional costs which they will have to pay. This isnt tin pot, it's about clubs having to budget extra money without any prior warning and on top of travel allowances being scrapped. I'm not against a Cornish team, the idea is quite exciting (even if I don't totally trust the person behind it) but had the clubs been given the heads up on this and told beforehand I doubt there'd be as much derision.
  14. I think some of the frustration from some clubs is not necessarily the travelling involved to Cornwall it's very likely as a result of the cuts to funding and travel allowance made for the upcoming season. I think it's frustration that it came out of the blue. The expense of it which will be pretty significant for some clubs is only one part.
  15. https://www.rugby-league.com/article/36119/2021-uk-tag-nationals-review
  16. The Try Tag nationals are being streamed on the Try Tag Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/trytagrugby?s=09 Also on OurLeague later on
  17. You really are an unapologetic pedant I've said before it really doesn't matter what it's called as long as people are picking up a rugby ball
  18. Doubt we'll ever see this league get off the ground. Was going to tough even pre covid. Everything has gone completely quiet and the Rugby League Europe propaganda machine (podcast) seems to be no more. I do hope we see some sort of officially sanctioned, properly funded Europe wide development competition at some point though. It would need to include teams only in developing countries and not teams in England
  19. You've been misinformed then. Jaguars and All Golds A have forfeited a number of fixtures. The league started well albeit with a number of blowout scores. Over the last few weeks hardly a game has been played due to teams not meeting their obligations to play a game
  20. Jaguars have forfeited a number of their fixtures this year. The league was full of forfeited fixtures unfortunately.
  21. I'd take what he says with a pinch of salt since he has a large axe to grind with the RFL and IRL
  22. A disgraceful decision from Aus and NZ which has far reaching consequences for the whole of the international game. Both countries are sending athletes abroad for pretty much every other sport so their excuses are pretty feeble. I would say there is likely no option to postpone. That will invoke a huge amount of extra costs and Aus/NZ can't be trusted not to do the same thing again next year. The only options are to press ahead or cut losses and cancel completely.
  23. No TTR is similar but not the same as OZTag. Its 7 a side, either single sex or mixed teams. It is 1 point for a Try or 2 points for a female try (where there are mixed teams). Kicking is permitted but not above head height, except when kicking off the ground. Female players have to take the kick offs. I do agree it's more suitable as a social/fitness game.
  24. I think to be honest most people just want to play a sport, have a bit of fun and be competitive. I don't think many people want to be cross sold rugby league related stuff. However, there is quite a big social side to tag and for example teams that play tag have gone to Bears games. I am sure others will go to the world cup game at the Ricoh. There's been a lot of social media sharing and as I said promotions such as cheaper rugby league tickets. I think as a partnership it works well and I am sure will get better as more people get involved.
  25. Again I'm not sure what the questions means really. I don't think it's the responsibility of TTR to promote RL. I would imagine there will be various link ups of some kind. For example TTR players were able to buy discounted challenge Cup tickets amongst other things. In addition there is a social media presence which I am sure will be utilised. Again though TTR is partnered with the RFL who are their governing body but its not their job to promote RL
