Leigh Centurions Reserves 80-6 Keighley Cougars Reserves Match Report by Joshua Chapman (@JRCSport)

COUGARS reserves side’s 2015 competitive season came to an end with a comprehensive defeat away at the Leigh Centurions.

The Centurions welcomed the young Keighley outfit knowing that a win would be good enough to secure the League Leader’s Shield with a place and home advantage in the Reserve’s Grand Final also guaranteed.

The lack of players which has dogged the second half to this campaign meant Coach Dean Muir had to start the game in the halves.

And despite going toe to toe with their full time opponents for the opening quarter of an hour, in similar fashion to last month’s meeting between the two, once Leigh broke the damn, the flood soon followed.

Mitch Cox, who scored a hat-trick last time out, repeated the feat once more with all his efforts this time coming in an eight try romp which would finish the first half.

Josh Swift and Harry Gagen also crossed for braces for a rampant Leigh side with Corey Lee, Jake Knox, Eze Harper, Sam Baggaley, Declan Gregory, Tom Roughley and first teamer Matt Sarsfield all crossing for a try a piece.

There was a brief moment of joy for Muir’s side on the half time hooter when James Morton powered his way over next to the posts to the delight of a healthy away following.

The reserves still have a friendly against the Bumble Bees Mixed Ability team to come next month as a curtain raiser to the first team’s home fixture against Hemel Stags.

COUGARS: Hunt, Brier, Casey, Ward, Taylor, Muir, Seeley, Watson, Stead, Broadley, Nicholson, Morton, Courtney. Subs. Wilkin, Goodall, Kennedy, Lindsey.

CENTURIONS: Lee, Knox, Harper, Baggaley, Swift, Foster, Hansen, Halton, Gregory, Warburton, Sarsfield, Roughley, Cox. Subs: Jukes, Gagen, Barber, Holland.
