Dons player Iafeta Palea’aesina has been granted a three-month testimonial – which will kick-off with a bucket collection at Sunday’s friendly with Hull FC.

The one-time New Zealand international began his career with New Zealand Warriors before joining Wigan Warriors in 2006, with whom he won the Super League Grand Final with in his final year.

He then went on to play for Salford Red Devils and Limoux before joining the East Yorkshire-based club in 2014, and chalked up his 250th appearance in the British game in his last match for Hull before departing for the Dons.

During his time with the Black and Whites, Palea’aesina was named Hull FC Community Player of the Year two years running for his outstanding contribution to the local community, working closely with the Hull FC Foundation.

He joins fellow Dons player Makali Aizue in being granted a testimonial.

Dons chief executive Carl Hall said: “They have both played their rugby in Hull, legends at both respective sides and hopefully the fans will contribute to their testimonial funds. “Both players have played in their positions for a lengthy amount of time and it’s a testament to two legends of the game, playing at such a high level throughout their careers.”

Speaking about Palea’aesina, Hull FC executive director James Clark said: “I have never met a more humble and modest rugby player during my time at the club and anyone more deserving of such recognition.

“He has been the ultimate ambassador for the club since joining us and his dedication to his community obligations is admirable and rare in modern day sport.

“He has enjoyed international and domestic honours over a fantastic career, but has never lost sight of what both he and the clubs he has played for mean to the fans”.

Monies raised will be split between Paleaaesina and team-mate Aizue, with fans interested in helping carry bucks asked to contact Jackie Green on Sunday.
