Herman Ese’Ese

Recommended Posts

Ese’ese cleared of any verbal abuse through compelling evidence.

Easy to accuse with, so far, no comeback for the accuser/s.  What a world.

‘Herman Ese’Ese of Hull FC will no longer face an Operational Rules Tribunal, as had been stated last week, following the submission of further evidence to the RFL’s Match Review Panel which has led to the charge of verbal abuse in a Betfred Super League fixture against London Broncos on May 12 being unequivocally withdrawn.

The RFL is happy to correct the record and ensure that it is publicly acknowledged that Herman is not guilty of any offence.

The new evidence includes an enhanced recording which has been prepared by a specialist sound engineer using the referee’s microphone. This evidence is compelling and contradicts the basis of the original allegations.

The RFL has conveyed sympathy to the player and his club for the public nature of this process over the last two weeks - although it believes that all parties and the Match Review Panel have acted in good faith at all times.

The RFL is grateful to Hull FC for recognising the need to investigate serious complaints. Hull FC has provided unwavering support to Herman throughout this process and is delighted with the RFL’s decision. The Club will work with Herman to ensure that he and the Club move forward from this exceptionally challenging period together.

Herman has thanked all those who have stood by him and describes feeling “overwhelming relief and gratitude that the truth has come out”. Herman and the club now want to focus on rugby.’

Did a London player make a complaint to Kendall or did Kendall think he heard something abusive and acted on it himself?

Would be nice to know and whoever instigated it admit they were wrong and apologise.

Yes, yes, I know, I'm not holding my breath.

Edit : Looks like it was a London player who instigated it, what will happen to him I wonder?

"Hull FC prop Herman Ese'ese has been cleared of all charges against him. The front rower was accused by a London Broncos player of 'verbal abuse' during the Black and Whites' clash in Wimbledon earlier this month and was handed a Grade F charge ahead of an independent hearing this Tuesday evening.

That charge, which was based on "verbal abuse based on race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, national or ethnic origin," would have carried a minimum eight-game suspension for Ese'ese if found guilty, but has now been 'unequivocally withdrawn' with the prop now free to play in Friday's game at Huddersfield Giants and beyond.

AD

The charge came after London Broncos submitted further evidence, as requested by the governing body. However, an enhanced recording which has been prepared by a specialist sound engineer using the referee’s microphone has cleared Ese'ese's name, with the findings 'compelling' and 'contradicting' of the original allegations."

As I understand it a complain was made to Kendall, who said to Houghton that he didn’t hear Ese’Ese alleged comment.  It then got sent up under the above Charge category.

Call me old-fashioned but a bit of verbal abuse makes the game more feisty.

It's not tiddly-winks or soccer.

What is said on the field should stay on the field.

Just words.

I'm always reminded of Wendell Sailor, who said that he was on the end of more verbal abuse in RL than RU. He said he always left the words on the field.

James Small, the former RU Springbok, was notorious for going anywhere with his sledging.

It's not a nice thing, but I prefer when players have a thick skin and take the verbals - and give some back if they want to!

Obviously I haven't heard the recording, but if, as the RFL have suggested, it is clear and fully exonerates Herman, then this statement is pretty poor.

I don't for one minute think the London player made it up, they obviously thought they had heard something and quite rightly reported it. But if its been proved beyond doubt that he didn't say what he thought he said, then there should be an apology for the misunderstanding and then put the incident behind them.

You've got to assume that London haven't heard this recording either, if it clears the player.

There's verbal abuse and there's verbal abuse though. I'm fine with sledging. But once it strays into racism, homophobia etc you deserve to have the book thrown at you.

Ok recently there was the case of a super league player who received a derogatory comment about his son’s genetic condition during a game, just words?

If that was the McGuire one, yeah it was really scummy.

I can understand why a player would report such comments to the ref, but I just prefer when players have a thick skin.

Just my preference. I don't like or admire verbal abuse.

No one deserves to subjected to any abuse whilst in their place of work. Even if it 'dulls' your level of entertainment somehow.

Nice to see justice taking a robust course with the rule of law of innocent until proven guilty being maintained.

And therefore guilty of something, anything.

I mean it's not even difficult to not be guilty here. Just don't abuse someone based on a protected characteristic. Pretty simple.

Didn’t Wells comment on it on Sky?

Probably, but with all the games these days it's just incessant talking for 80 minutes so anything interesting was probably missed.
