audois
Has passed away aged 90 yrs. I saw him playing for France at Knowsley Road against a Rugby League XIII in November 1958. The home side fielded Bevan and Vollenhoven on the wings and an all-Yorkshire pack with a prop from York called Vic Yorke. I had never seen anything like it before. How they looked and the way they played. A three-quarter line of Voron/Jiminez/Carrere/Savonne ran rings round the hosts winning 26-8.Jiminez was capped 32 times in that great epoch for the Tricolores and was their skipper in Australia on the 1960 Tour were they shared the Test series. He played for Villeneuve/Lot and later became the Federations first ever Technical Director 1960-78. Remembered him wearing a distinctive white head band that day at St Helens. Wonderful memories. "It involves matters much greater than drafting the new rules...the original and existing games have their own powerful appeal to their players and public and have the sentiments which history inspires" - Harold 'Jersey' Flegg 1933 "Just as we had been Cathars, we were treizistes, men apart."
BadlyOverdrawnBoy
A few years back I saw a team called Agip XIII play against Palau. 12 of the Agip 17 had the surname Jimenez. The match was abandoned after 30 minutes due to persistent brawling.
