Gave up playing rugby, took up the "association game" together with cricket and relocated to a ground in Savile Town.

Dewsbury Northern Union FC was subsequently formed in 1898 and took up a lease at the ground which had been relinquished by the former RU club. The club was admitted to the NU where they finished third in the Western Section of the new Second Division

Yes, it was the original Dewsbury RF club, formed in 1875 and originally playing on Sugar Lane. They later moved to Crown Flatt, then simply a field. They were fairly successful up until the mid-1880's but struggled to maintain decent attendances and to afford the upkeep of the ground. Eventually they gave up the battle during the 1897-98 season and withdrew from the Yorkshire Senior Competition in order to concentrate upon Association and cricket, moving to Savile Town in order to do so. They took all of the equipment from Crown Flatt, including the stand and sold it off by auction. The club at Savile Town only lasted for a few years before folding completely.
