Support Turkish Rugby League

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Turkish Rugby League is one of the highlights of Rugby League expansion, since early 2017 running full men's, Women's and Youth as well as running Beach Rugby League as well.

Each year the sport grows here. One of the greater challenges being finance to take it the next level.

Your generosity and support can make a real difference, even 10 or 20 pounds can go a fair way here.

Would you consider supporting the TRL?

Would you also consider sharing this fundraiser?

(this is only for the central TRL not us, Izmir Zaferi)

Hi, can you give more details about domestic RL in Turkey, and how this money will be spent please?

For sure.

The TRL of course runs the national sides and has now fielded Men's, Women's and Under 20's Youth sides.

This year Turkey hosted the Group Do European championships, largely funded out of the pockets of the President himself.

Turkish Rugby League now has about ten Men's clubs in regular national competition with other small clubs or teams that only attend special events. (For instance, Izmir RL has one national side but we have five local small teams playing on smaller fields - you can check this out on izmirrugby.com)

The TRL also runs a women's competition which before Covid had four teams. Additionally, we have had four male Youth teams (I am not sure about this year).

The TRL has now also started a RL Academy program in Istanbul with a view to expanding into other cities.

Additionally, the Istanbul Beach Rugby League event is probably among the best events in all of European Rugby League.

All this has been done with virtually no government support (only Union is recognised by the federal government) and very little corporate support, just the support of those running the game (especially the TRL President).

The TRL is one, seeking to continue these programs is a difficult economic environment but also expand these with new teams interested in entering the TRL. Funding would help cover administrative costs, travel costs for the national team, opportunities for expansion in youth engagement.

The TRL is also seeking to become a formal Federation with the national government.
