Third marquee players

So Hull saying they won’t have a third marquee player but that Warrington and possibly both Wigan and Catalans do/will.

Does that mean Hull will have just two marquee players?

Do Saints not have any?

Is anyone aware how many clubs have marquee players and who these marquee players are?

That link doesn’t open for me. However does anyone know the definition of a marquee player?

From the RFL site:

Marquee Player – Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained)

There is a 3rd available for this year but that was only applies to non-quota players.

Saints will definitely have some, they'd be fools not to considering most of their key players are club trained and will be on more than £100k a year

Ah right thanks, so it can be any player, but only £100k of their wage counts towards the cap. I get it now.

https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/super-league-marquee-players-2020-3587721 Said back in 2019 that the following clubs had one or two marquee players,

- Wigan x 2 (Hastings and G Burgess)

- Huddersfield x 1 (Sezer)

- Leeds x 2 (Hurrell and Merrin)

- Catalans x 1 (Maloney)

- Toronto x 2 ( Sonny Bill and Leutele)

- Warrington x 2 ( Widdop and Austin)

Going into 2024 with Toronto gone and a much tougher environment commercially for SL clubs if anything you would expect less…

Also surprised that article suggests Saints didn’t have one.  Are St Helens stingy payers?

Not sure the calibre of imports means we should use the term marquee anymore. Not exactly getting players the ilk of Andrew Johns or Jamie Lyon anymore.

There are still some top quality imports to be fair mate, Bevan French is just one example.
