But unless I am missing something very obvious, not quite sure this is in the same area. Why are GV giving game time to a Donny player? Are they in L1 next season? This is a low level amateur club giving game time to a semi pro player. I doubt they can afford to pay him so what’s in it for GV?

Well, they're a "low level amateur club" that are getting a semi pro player on dual registration for however long. I am guessing that's what is in it for GV.

sentoffagain2
Often happened in the old days players playing for their local amateur sides under permit. One Sunday game i played in on the other side was a centre who had played for Wakefield against New Zealand less than 12 months earlier. He must have been out Sat night because he played no better than the other lads from both sides.
langpark
What league do Goole currently play in? Surely this is a little unfair on their opponents? Could it be that RFL are requiring them to gain promotion via the NCL leagues? So they are start their push to clim their way up to League One? No offence but IMO Goole Vikings are a bit beneath Tom Halliday. He’d be better off playing for Toll Bar or Bentley where he’d be at least repping a club in the Doncaster area.
OriginalMrC
Bizarre. Surely he could be having a run out for a league 1. Assume he lives near Goole and is just keeping fit, though is it worth Goole paying his match fee (presumably £500-1000) just for the privilege

Some will be on guaranteed payments on top but not all. I'd say as a newly promoted team Doncaster aren't paying big bucks. Rene_Artois
He's from Goole. Still very much part of The Dons plans but ATM Briscoe and Faraimo are fit and playing well.

They are under our development group of "ambassador clubs" which covers quite a large area including Immingham Wasps to Bassetlaw Bulldogs. https://www.doncasterrugbyleague.co.uk/community/ambassador-clubs Edited July 27 by Rene_Artois 2

Northern Eel
I’d be quite surprised if there was anyone at, say Batley, on more than £500 a game. That could, admittedly be wildly incorrect, but equally, I’d not be surprised if that figure was £250. Edited July 27 by Northern Eel

Think that is not far off. Most Batley players will be on between 12k and 15k some who make up the squad a bit under. One thing about Batley they don't let ambition break the club with high contracts the club can't afford. Griff
3 hours ago, OriginalMrC said: You could well be right, depends on their contract though Never a more obvious statement than that. The norm these days is to have a monthly contract payment with win bonuses on top of that. Partly (if not entirely) forced on clubs by government legislation on minimum pay, sick pay, holiday pay etc. A "match fee", only paid if you played, just isn't an option any more.
