Emmerson Whittel signs new deal until end of 2025 season

 

Rochdale Hornets loose forward Emmerson Whittel has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2025 season.

The 29-year-old joined the club in March from fellow Betfred League 1 side Oldham, where he made 64 appearances across two separate spells.

Since then, Whittel has featured 13 times in a Hornets shirt and scored once in the 20-20 draw away at Keighley Cougars back in July.

An experienced back-rower, he will enter his 10th season in senior rugby league with Rochdale, after counting the likes of Bradford Bulls, Gloucestershire All Golds, Keighley Cougars and Australian side Rockingham Sharks amongst his previous clubs.

With Gary Thornton's men making a strong case for the playoffs in 2024, Whittel believes that now is the perfect time to extend his stay at the Hornets.

"I'm really happy to be staying for another season at Rochdale," Whittel said.

"Everyone at the club has looked after me and my family since arriving from Oldham earlier in the year.

"I think we have put ourselves in a good place going into the play offs and we have a massive opportunity to cause some upset.

"I want to push for promotion and if we don’t achieve it this year then it has to be something we are pushing for in 2025. 

"I can’t thank Andy Mazey and Gary Thornton enough for getting the deal done so quickly, and I look forward to another successful year at Rochdale in 2025."
