Four potential destinations for Brett Ferres

With news emerging yesterday that Brett Ferres has been transfer-listed by Huddersfield Giants, his days at the West Yorkshire club look to be numbered.

The news comes to light after it was revealed the England international has also been disciplined for his off-field issues, with Ferres alleged to have had an affair with the wife of a team-mate.

“Huddersfield Giants have concluded the investigation into the conduct away from the field which led to the suspension of Brett Ferres,” said a club spokesperson.

“That suspension has been lifted and Mr Ferres disciplined in line with company policy.

“Mr Ferres has also been transfer listed. The club will be making no further comment at this stage.”

So where next for the England international? Here’s four potential homes for Ferres in 2016 and beyond.

Wests Tigers
Wests endured a pretty torrid year in 2015, and they’ve gone through a sizeable reshuffle to ensure 2016 is a lot better. Captain Robbie Farah is finally staying with the club, and with that saga done, could they make a play for Ferres and bring him to the NRL? He admitted in the past he’s had interest from Australia in recent years – and a move to the Tigers, where Gareth Ellis flourished and became one of the best back-rowers in the world, could be of appeal.

Gold Coast Titans
Another NRL club that could be interested in Ferres is Gold Coast Titans. They finished 14th in the NRL last year, and have lost big names including Nate Myles, Dave Taylor and potentially star man James Roberts – so there’s definitely room for Ferres to fit in under their cap. Will a move to the Gold Coast catch his eye?

Hull FC
As well as the NRL, Ferres is bound to command interest from a number of Super League clubs. There are some who have space available on the cap to fit the England star in, and Hull FC will almost certainly be one of those. They’ve publicly admitted they have space to strike a deal for someone after losing Joe Westerman to Warrington, and Ferres could be a shrewd and ideal replacement.

Salford
If there was a market open offering odds for Ferres’ next club, you’d have to imagine Salford would be the favourites. They’re linked with most big names that become available – and Ferres would certainly be able to improve their team no end in 2016. They’ve recruited well already on the face of things, but landing Ferres would be an even bigger deal than the ones they have secured.
