Frayssinous refuses to blame Richards for loss

Catalans Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous refused to blame the errant goalkicking of winger Pat Richards as a reason for their Magic Weekend defeat to wakefield.

The Dragons slumped to a 25-24 loss to the in-form Wildcats, missing out on the chance to move to the top of Super League in the process.

Richards missed four goal kicks – including what looked a straightforward penalty five minutes from the end – before Jacob Miller stroked home a dramatic field goal three minutes from the end.

“That happens in life,” said Frayssinous.

“He’s a very good kicker and there are some days like that – it’s just how it is.

“I would not blame a goal kicker ever for defeat: ever. I won’t blame Paddy either on this instance. He hit the post but we just shouldn’t have been in that situation to start with.”

Frayssinous also paid credit to Wakefield for the victory, saying: “I’m really impressed with them.

“They work hard for each other and they play some great stuff – Chris Chester is doing a great job for them.”
