Widnes Vikings could be without Alex Gerrard for the rest of the season, Denis Betts has revealed.
The 24-year-old forward, who has been a notable performer at the Vikings this year, has been struggling with a knee issue throughout the season, with Betts fearful that he might have to undergo an operation to solve the issue.
“We’re assessing him this week but the possibility of Alex not playing this year is looming high at the moment,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I think we’re looking at some major knee surgery on Alex. We’re not sure exactly what it is at the moment.
“We’re still waiting for some feedback. He’s struggled most of the year and this could be a big blow for us and a bigger blow for Alex. But what the timescale is we’re not sure but he won’t feature for the next few weeks and maybe for a long period.”
