Gordon quits Sharks

Michael Gordon has cited a series of broken promises from Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan as the reason why he has walked out on the Cronulla Sharks in the last year of his contract.

Gordon initially joined the Sharks because he wanted to be a full-time fullback, an opportunity that he wasn’t getting at his debut club, Penrith Panthers.

After 2 seasons as the Sharks fullback, this year he has had limited game time due to new recruit Ben Barba and gun rookie Valentine Holmes both spending time at fullback.

A few weeks ago, Gordon sought and was seemingly granted permission to a mid-season shift to the Parramatta Eels, who have been struggling to replace star Jarryd Hayne.

But the switch was denied at the eleventh hour by Sharks officials.
