GOSSIP: Gaskell to make controversial Leigh switch

There has been plenty of talk surrounding Bradford Bulls and a potential move for Leigh halfback Ryan Brierley in recent weeks.

But in the latest saga between the two Championship clubs, the Centurions are close to pinching Bradford’s influential halfback for the 2017 season.

Stand-off Lee Gaskell is being lined up to move the other way at the end of the 2016 season and make a staggering move to LSV.

According to the Rugby League World Insider, the Centurions have been long-term admirers of the Bulls halfback and are desperate to land the 25-year-old for next season.

Gaskell, who has attracted interest from clubs at the highest level in recent years, has been heavily linked with a move across the Pennines. The Centurions are reportedly willing to offer the former St Helens star a hefty wage increase to join the club next year.

Born in St Helens, a move closer to home could be appealing to Gaskell, but whether Leigh can fend off interest from Super League clubs and his current employer is a different matter.

Such a move would give Leigh a perfect replacement for Brierley, who inevitably looks set to leave the club after his recent suspension and war of words with head coach Neil Jukes.

Brierley could leave the Centurions as early as April 1st after activating a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the club, although Leigh are set to contest the eligibility of the clause.
