GUILLERMO AISPURO-BICHET will be a “very good” player for Catalans Dragons – if he keeps up the hard work.
That’s the view of head coach Joel Tomkins after the club agreed a one-year contract extension with the young French fullback.
Aispuro-Bichet followed up his first five appearances for Catalans in 2024 with 20 more last season, becoming their regular number one in light of club legend Sam Tomkins’ injury issues and subsequent retirement.
He has his work cut out to retain the position following the recruitment of Charlie Staines, who can also play on the wing, and Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e.
But the club-produced 20-year-old is glad for the boost of a fresh deal which commits him to the Dragons until the end of 2027.
“I am very happy to extend my adventure with the Catalans Dragons,” said Aispuro-Bichet, who earned his fourth French cap in their World Cup qualification victory over Jamaica last October.
“The confidence the club has placed in me for the future means a lot to me.
“Wearing this jersey and playing in front of our fans is a real source of pride.”
Tomkins said: “Guillermo is a promising young French talent and we are very happy to keep him at the club for the next two years.
“He played more games than expected last season due to the numerous injuries we had, and he handled the pressure with great maturity.
“With the right coaching and hard work, he will become a very good player for the Dragons.”
