Halifax chairman Michael Steele has admitted Featherstone Rovers are now big favourites to finish second in the Championship and take the extra £250,000 in RFL central funding that comes with the runner-up spot.
Fax were beaten 4-20 at home on Sunday and are now two points behind their West Yorkshire rivals in third place.
“It’s not over until the final ball has been kicked on the final day, but you have to make Featherstone red hot favourites after today,” Steele told League Express.
“Our budget for next season wasn’t reliant on winning that extra money, and it was only in the last couple of months that we looked like we might have a chance.
“It would be nice, and we might re-adjust our budget if it comes off, but it’s not like losing something we were pinning our hopes on. We still look forward to our remaining games and the play-offs.”
