Halifax’s Matt Place leaves club for family reasons

Halifax have agreed to mutually terminate the contract of half-back Matt Place, who will return to his native Australia this weekend for family reasons.

Place only arrived at the club in the off-season but made a good impact at the club, scoring the winning try as Fax won a West Yorkshire derby against Batley Bulldogs early in the season.

However, Halifax chairman Michael Steele has revealed that Place will now be heading home on Saturday, and the club have wished him all the best for his future.”Matt has worked hard since arriving from Australia before Christmas, and has been a valued member of the squad, scoring the winning try at Batley,” Steele said. “However, he has family commitments in Sydney, and, naturally those take priority over his sporting ambitions, here. We wish him well in his future career.”
